{"id":213361,"date":"2016-05-11T06:35:41","date_gmt":"2016-05-11T06:35:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=213361"},"modified":"2016-05-11T06:35:41","modified_gmt":"2016-05-11T06:35:41","slug":"teachers-suspend-decision-to-picket-at-finance-ministry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/05\/teachers-suspend-decision-to-picket-at-finance-ministry\/","title":{"rendered":"Teachers suspend decision to picket at Finance Ministry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The over three thousand teachers who served notice, they would <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/05\/09\/over-3000-teachers-to-picket-at-finance-ministry-over-salary-arrears\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>picket<\/strong><\/a><\/span> at the Finance Ministry today [Wednesday], over unpaid salaries have suspended their action.<\/p>\n<p>The U-turn, according to the teachers, follows a Police order, directing them to reschedule their exercise because of \u00a0the ban on drumming and\u00a0 noise making in parts of the Greater Accra Region.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;LMChddnSg8NOQpS3aT2PZeRhgqv3Q4c9&#8243;]Teachers who belong to a group calling itself\u00a0 Unpaid teachers had planned\u00a0 to embark on the action today,\u00a0 to compel the Finance \u00a0Ministry\u00a0 to release to them, their over three years\u2019 salary arrears which have been okayed by the Audit\u00a0 service to be paid.<\/p>\n<p>President of the Group, Eric Darko Effa told <strong>Citi News <\/strong>that\u00a0even though they have put their plans on hold, they will hold a meeting with government today, which will inform their next line of action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were called by the Greater Accra Regional Commander and were served with a notification to stop the picketing on the basis that there is ban on drumming and noise making and the Ministry of Finance is a no go area. So that was the reason for the postponement of the picketing. So today we have another meeting with the deputy Minister of Finance, Mr Ato Forson and we are hoping to arrive at the exact date that we are going to be paid our monies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unpaid teachers weeding for survival<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The group had lamented that their members <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/05\/07\/unpaid-teachers-weeding-for-survival-cry-out-to-govt\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>weed in farms for survival<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the General Secretary of the group, Isaac Amponsah called on government to fast track the payment of their salaries before the situation gets worse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are suffering. All of us are in villages teaching\u2026 A teacher has to go and weed for a farmer for 15 cedis before he can make ends meet.
