President John Mahama has summoned all sub-regional leaders for a meeting in Accra on Friday, May 30.<\/p>\n
The Chairman of the Economic Community Of West African States\u00a0 (ECOWAS) meeting is expected to discuss important issues affecting the sub-region including the Boko Haram threat in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
The meeting will come off at the M\u00f6venpick\u00a0Ambassador\u00a0Hotel in Accra.<\/p>\n
Presidential Spokesperson, Ben Dotse Malor told the media at the Flagstaff House on Wednesday that the meeting is part of the president’s efforts to enhance security and regional integration in the sub-region.<\/p>\n
This is the first meeting President Mahama is organizing for member states in Ghana since assuming the chairman position of the regional community.<\/p>\n
Dotse Marlor said a wide range of issues “of urgent and mutual consent will be chosen by the Heads of States for discussion.”<\/p>\n
According to him, activities for the meeting, will include a welcome address by President Mahama, a presentation by the President\u00a0of the\u00a0ECOWAS Commission, Kadr\u00e9 D\u00e9sir\u00e9 Ouedraogo, a close session meeting by the leaders, and a press conference.<\/p>\n
The President on Tuesday ordered the Ghana Armed Forces \u00a0to \u201coutline a strategy for training and preparation\u201d in readiness to fight terrorists who might target the West African nation.<\/p>\n
\u201cTerrorism is not a new phenomenon in the world but the new dimensions that it is taking are threatening global peace,\u201d he told the Security Chiefs.<\/p>\n
The militant group based in Nigeria has taken responsibility for kidnapping over 200 school girls and a series of number of bomb blasts which have killed hundreds of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
