The Electoral Commission (EC) recently added two more registration centre on the University of Ghana campus for the limited voters’ registration centre but the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) on campus say thousands still risk being disenfranchised.

TESCON contends that an extension of the exercise, set to end today, Sunday, will better serve the students.

[contextly_sidebar id=”agGasPN6VN87HjmSXkqIetluG8nAFIOB”]Agitations over just one registration centre serving the over-11,000 student population on the University of Ghana campus, compelled the EC to add two more, taking the total number to three.

But with hours to the end of the exercise, the TESCON President, Maxwell Adu Takyi said the EC should rather extend the period for the exercise.

The university is currently in its examination period and Mr. Takiy pointed out that most of the students are now occupied with their examination and have not had the time to join the long quueues.

“Looking at the situation now, most students are in the lecture rooms writing exams now as I am talking to you right now so most of them, looking at the time they brought in these centres, I don’t think it is the best for students.”

The TESCON president indicated that the only good news that could come the way of students was for the EC to extend the registration exercise.

“It will be only good news for us if they will be able to extend the time for us… we have numerous students who haven’t registered as at now, I don’t think it is anything good for us.”
