{"id":212436,"date":"2016-05-08T14:17:36","date_gmt":"2016-05-08T14:17:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=212436"},"modified":"2016-05-08T14:17:36","modified_gmt":"2016-05-08T14:17:36","slug":"we-cant-complete-registration-in-time-ec-official-admits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/05\/we-cant-complete-registration-in-time-ec-official-admits\/","title":{"rendered":"We can&#8217;t complete registration in time &#8211; EC official\u00a0admits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the Electoral Commission&#8217;s Limited Voters Registration exercise draws to a close today, some of its officials at the various registration centres have said they will not be able to register all persons by close of day.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, a registration officer, Dominic Andoh at the Ayalolo registration centre in the Ashiedu Keteke electoral area, lamented that with the numbers they were seeing today, &#8220;we can&#8217;t register everybody, absolutely not&#8230; we have problems with light here so we may not be able to even take pictures when it gets dark.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-212440\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/20160508061842.jpg\" alt=\"20160508061842\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We trying to do our best as electoral officers to register [as many as we can] \u00a0for those we cannot capture we will talk to the political party agents and if there is anything else to do, it will have to come from the higher authorities,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Some political parties, students, individuals and CSOs have called on the EC to extend the time for the exercise but it said it is yet to take any such decision.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-212438\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/20160508061840-1.jpg\" alt=\"20160508061840 (1)\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Party Agents Frustrating the Process<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Mr. Andoh, various political party agents are frustrating the process by unnecessarily challenging some of the registrants.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some of them [party agents] challenge people and come back later to withdraw the challenges, these raise arguments and slow the process.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-212441\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/registration.jpg\" alt=\"registration\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He recommends that there should be some punitive measures put in place to check the practice where agents challenge people for the sake of it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Kwame Botchway\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the Electoral Commission&#8217;s Limited Voters Registration exercise draws to a close today, some of its officials at the various registration centres have said they will not be able to register all persons by close of day.
