<\/p>\nThe Government of South Korea in collaboration with UNICEF have established a New Born Care Unit furnished with sophisticated equipment for the Sandema Hospital in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region, to provide quality care for newborn babies\u00a0 and reduce neonatal deaths in the area.<\/p>\n
The partnership with the Ghana Health Service in a Human Development through Life Cycle Approach Project in the Upper East Region, seeks to support child development from birth up to adolescence both in the health and education aspects of development.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, UNICEF Representative, Susan Namondo Ngongi, said the New-born Care Unit will complement the provision of quality health care to new-borns and treatment of pre-term or low birth weight babies with complications that are timely referred from health centers and CHIPS compounds.<\/p>\n She urged community members, traditional and opinion leaders to encourage and advocate the timely patronage of the facility and impress upon\u00a0pregnant mothers to seek good health behaviors and better newborn care practices to prevent complications for babies at birth.<\/p>\n The project has seen the establishment of a resource training center at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for re-fresher training and learning on New-born health.<\/p>\n The facility will reduce the burden on mothers who have to commute from Sandema, Fumisi, Navrongo, and Yagba to Bolgatanga to access New-born care.<\/p>\n South Korea Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Woon-Ki Lyeo, said the Government of Korea will continue to support the health sector and soon the region will receive more health projects to foster development.<\/p>\n He hinted that, his government will rehabilitate about 120 CHIPS compounds in the Upper East Region and urged\u00a0health workers and community members to utilize the facility efficiently.<\/p>\n They also donated 30 AG-YAMAHA 100 motorbikes to the Upper East Regional Health Directorate to facilitate movement of community health nurses and improve the quality of healthcare within the region.<\/p>\n Upper East Regional Health Director, Dr. Kofi Issah, expressed profound appreciation for the support, adding that innovative measures would be adopted to make financial commitment through the use of the bikes to purchase more motorbikes to for their operations.<\/p>\n Upper East Regional Minister, Albert Abongo, lauded the intervention by the government of Korea and UNICEF and appealed for sponsorship for\u00a0doctors and nurses in the region to undertake pediatric programmes in Korea so as to impact the skills acquired in their line of duty after a successful completion.<\/p>\n He also appealed to the Korean government to support the Navrongo Research Center to either undertake joint research work or aid them expand their research work.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Fred Awuni\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Government of South Korea in collaboration with UNICEF have established a New Born Care Unit furnished with sophisticated equipment for the Sandema Hospital in the Builsa North District of the Upper East Region, to provide quality care for newborn babies\u00a0 and reduce neonatal deaths in the area.
