The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for Tamale Central in the Northern Region, Dr. Barhama Ibrahim Anyass, has accused the incumbent Member of Parliament, Inusah Fuseini of bribing Electoral Commission officers in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

According to him, the Tamale central legislator, is inducing the EC officers to skew the limited voter registration exercise in his favour.

He alleged that some National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives in the Tamale central constituency physically handed over envelopes containing money to EC officers at some of the registration centres he visited.

Dr. Barhama Ibrahim Anyass

He cited the Manhaliya and the Zogbeli primary registration centres where the envelopes allegedly exchanged hands.

“I have been here for over an hour monitoring the registration only to realize the NDC party officials had arrived and said they were a team from the Tamale central NDC Parliamentary candidate. I have followed their trail across registration centres and all that we witnessed was they were sharing money to election officials and their party officials there.”

“I have come back at the close of the registration to confirm that was the case that really happened at the Manhaliya registration centre. I consider it to be an illegality, it is an infringement, someone who is setting out the law as a Member of Parliament and also a learned person should know better not to try to induce EC officials at registration centres.”

He served notice that the NPP in Tamale Central will resist any attempts to subdue the will of the electorates on election day.

Dr. Barhama Ibrahim Anyass said Inusah Fuseini was afraid he could lose the seat, hence his desperate moves.

He claimed the electorate in Tamale Central are tired of Inusah Fuseini and need a change on November 7.

But speaking to Citi News, the incumbent Tamale Central MP, Inusah Fuseini, rejected the claims saying he is not aware of any attempt to bribe EC officers.

“I’m not aware of any attempt by constituency executives to bribe EC officers in this registration exercise. I have not attempted to influence electoral officers in the exercise of their function as registration officers. I have been engaged in elections for some time now and I know how to conduct myself and I do follow the laws and ensure that everything is done according to the specifications of the law.”

He said his accusers “have a propensity to throw all kinds of mud against me because they think that because by throwing a lot of mud, some will stick. This is not true. People will tell you that if anybody at all will do that it is certainly not Inusah Fuseini.”
