{"id":210938,"date":"2016-05-02T17:38:03","date_gmt":"2016-05-02T17:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=210938"},"modified":"2016-05-02T17:38:03","modified_gmt":"2016-05-02T17:38:03","slug":"stop-the-craze-for-holidays-prof-akosa-to-ghanaians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/05\/stop-the-craze-for-holidays-prof-akosa-to-ghanaians\/","title":{"rendered":"Stop the craze for holidays &#8211; Prof Akosa to Ghanaians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A member of the Convention People\u2019s Party, CPP, Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, has condemned what he calls the craze for public holidays in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, about 13 public holidays are observed in Ghana under the Public Holidays Act 2001 (Act 601) which also allows the President of Ghana to declare other holidays as and when necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the Nkrumaist said the practice is detrimental to productivity especially where holidays have to be pushed from a weekend to a working day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe day on which we celebrate the holiday should really be the holiday. What I don\u2019t like is if it ends on a weekday or a Saturday it is pushed to a Monday. If it happens on Sunday, that is May Day. What is this colonial thing that says that if you have a holiday on a Saturday, Monday should be converted to a holiday?
