The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei, says the commission is expecting to register about \u00a01.2 million people in its limited voters\u2019 registration exercise scheduled to commence\u00a0on Thursday April, 28 to May 8, 2016.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are expecting to register about 1.2 million people, that is the maximum. On average , if we get good turnout, we should be looking at 38 people per registration centre per day,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The exercise, which is one of the major events ahead of the elections on November 7, seeks to register persons who have turned 18, as well as first time voters.<\/p>\n
All is set for the exercise<\/strong><\/p>\n Mrs. Osei said the commission is fully prepared for the exercise and has dispatched the \u00a0needed logistics across the country.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are pretty well prepared and we are confident that it will be successful. We have deliberately structured it so that during the two week period, we’ve captured about three weekends so that for people who have to go to work, it gives them as much time as possible over the weekend and it won’t be\u00a0affected by people having to go to work.”<\/p>\n While expressing the hope that people will patronize the registration centres early, she reiterated that the exercise \u00a0is only open to those who could not, and did not, register in the last open registration, adding that it is not an avenue for already registered voters to replace lost voter ID Cards, or to transfer vote from one constituency to another.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Marian Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
