{"id":20955,"date":"2014-05-27T10:44:12","date_gmt":"2014-05-27T10:44:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=20955"},"modified":"2014-05-27T13:41:34","modified_gmt":"2014-05-27T13:41:34","slug":"accra-psychiatric-hospital-staff-demonstrate-over-lack-of-drugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/05\/accra-psychiatric-hospital-staff-demonstrate-over-lack-of-drugs\/","title":{"rendered":"Accra Psychiatric hospital nurses demonstrate over lack of drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nurses at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital on Tuesday embarked on a demonstration to express their displeasure over the unavailability of drugs and some basic working equipment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u2019 reporter, Nana Boakye Yiadom reported that\u00a0\u00a0 \u2018\u2019a handful of nurses from the psychiatric hospital and other health workers are demonstrating and singing with placards\u2026\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>According to him the nurses say \u2018\u2019the unavailability of medicine in the hospital pharmacy put them and their patients in danger\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Leader of the group, Samuel Kwadwo Hanu accused the government of abandoning the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019We are demonstrating because the logistics that we are supposed to use to work are not available in this hospital; the government has abandoned the psychiatric hospital for far too long,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Samuel Hanu further noted that patients are unable to get the medications prescribed for them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/nurses-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-20957\" alt=\"nurses 2\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/nurses-2.jpg\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/nurses-2.jpg 640w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/nurses-2-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a>\u2018\u2019\u2026 according to the information we are having the situation will be so for the next eight months; so as nurses we are advocating for our patients and government must intervene,\u2019\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n<p>He opined that the patients by government\u2019s policy are supposed to receive free treatment and medication [psychiatric treatment].<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019Majority of our patients, about 80 percent are poor and cannot afford the medication; things are really bad here now,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Hanu also explained that the situation put the nurses and everyone who works in the psychiatric hospital in danger.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the nurses will lay down their tools after a week when nothing is done about the situation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Evans Effah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nurses at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital on Tuesday embarked on a demonstration to express their displeasure over the unavailability of drugs and some basic working equipment.
