<\/p>\nACP Edward Tabiri, Director General in-charge of Legal Affairs, has officially launched the \u00a0crime check programme which seeks to sensitize Ghanaians by bringing to bear the stories of prisoners and the conditions of the prisons.<\/p>\n
The programme launched in Accra, was attended by the Acting Director General of Prisons; Emmanuel Yao Adzator, a representative of the IGP; ACP Edward Tabiri, the Eastern Regional Minister; Mavis Ama Frimpong, and the British High Commissioner; Jon Benjamin.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Some ex -convicts and a cross section of the public were also in attendance.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the launch , Jon Benjamin described the Prisons Ambassador’s approach to crime prevention as a bold\u00a0 and innovative one which if well carried out, could significantly reduce the crime rate in the country.<\/p>\n

Among the individuals who received awards from the Foundation for their efforts towards Crime prevention include Chocho Industries, Ameen Scientific Herbal Hospital, Asanduk Construction, Ghana Revenue Authority and the Tufuhene of Songhai Community, Alhaji Habib Sad.<\/p>\n
ACP Edward Tabiri lauded the initiative by the Prisons Ambassador Extraordinaire and pledged the support of the Police Administration in view of its capacity to significantly reduce crime in the country.<\/p>\n

The Eastern Regional Minister also urged Corporate Ghana to contribute to sustain the initiative which she says will be instrumental in reducing the crime statistics in the country.<\/p>\n
The Acting Director General of Prisons Emmanuel Yao Adzator, said the initiative could not have come at a better time considering the massive congestion in the country’s prisons.<\/p>\n

He praised Mr. Kwarteng for his efforts over the years at projecting the challenges facing the prisons Service and urged him to do even more in his new approach to crime prevention.<\/p>\n
Mr. Kwarteng said he chose the Prisons as a reference point for his campaign because most Ghanaians are not aware of the deplorable prison conditions and the emotional trauma associated with imprisonment, hence their involvement in crime.<\/p>\n
He said Crime Check Foundation\u00a0will officially begin the campaign next month.<\/p>\n
