{"id":20885,"date":"2014-05-27T08:08:47","date_gmt":"2014-05-27T08:08:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=20885"},"modified":"2014-05-26T17:09:07","modified_gmt":"2014-05-26T17:09:07","slug":"x-men-crush-godzilla-at-us-box-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/05\/x-men-crush-godzilla-at-us-box-office\/","title":{"rendered":"X-Men crush Godzilla at US box office"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"story_continues_1\">X-Men: Days of Future Past has defeated Godzilla at the US box office, taking an estimated $91m (\u00a354m).<\/p>\n<p>With totals expected to top more than $110m (\u00a365m) over the Memorial Day weekend, the film has left last week&#8217;s number one movie in its wake.<\/p>\n<p>Brit director Gareth Edwards&#8217; monster movie earned $31.4m (\u00a318.6m) bringing its total US tally to $149m (\u00a388.4m) since its release.<\/p>\n<p>Blended, starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, took the third spot.<\/p>\n<p>The rom-com, which sees Sandler and Barrymore reunite on the big screen for a third time, took a disappointing $14.2m (\u00a38.4m).<\/p>\n<p>Seth Rogen and Zac Efron comedy Neighbors took $14m (\u00a38.3m), taking it over the $100m (\u00a359.3m) in the US while The Amazing Spider-Man 2 rounded out the top five with $8m (\u00a34.7m)in its fourth weekend on release.<\/p>\n<p>Fears that\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/entertainment-arts-27282014\">a series of sexual assault claims<\/a>\u00a0filed against X-Men director Bryan Singer would harm the film&#8217;s box office proved to be unfounded as its takings gave it the fifth biggest Memorial Day weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The filmmaker, who denies the charges, even dropped out of doing any press interviews for the film.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for box-office tracker Rentrak, said: &#8220;Rarely do outside situations impact the box office.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The true fans, all they care about is the movie.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The film, a time-travelling sequel to the 2011 reboot of the X-Men franchise sees Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, being sent from a dystopian future back to 1973 to save the future of mutantkind.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>X-Men: Days of Future Past has defeated Godzilla at the US box office, taking an estimated $91m (\u00a354m).
