Some executives of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), electoral area co-ordinators and polling station delegates of the Manhyia North Constituency in the Ashanti Region, have issued a stern warning to the national executives of the party to rescind their decision to conduct a re- run of a disputed polling station election in the area.

The angry executives over the weekend, wielded machetes and stones and chanted war songs to protest the intended re-run.

The constituency’s Deputy Secretary, Patricia Arthur, claimed that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, took that decision because of their selfish interests.

She promised they will deal with any party executive who attempts to conduct the poll.

“We don’t want any hypocrisy. We are all one people and we want power. If the NEC is not aware we are making them aware that there is not going to be any re-run at Manhyia North. If they try it, they may have to come with coffins for us.”

But the Chairman of the Committee set up by the party to resolve the election dispute at Manhyia North, says he’s disappointment at the actions of constituency executives.

Speaking to Citi News, the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, a former MP, said the constituency executives are going against the party’s decision.

He indicated that he had devised an approach to deal with issues being raised by the disgruntled aspirants.

“I have taken an approach that will involve everybody. Instead of taking decisions outside, I am calling all of them to the podium and allow everybody to speak their minds…”

Why a re-run

A supreme Court ruling last year asked the party’s leadership to organize a fresh primary in that constituency following allegations by some disgruntled aspirants that the process was fraught with irregularities.
