A delegation from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by its Director of Election, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has visited the Atebubu Amanten Traditional area to plead with the chiefs and elders to lift a ban it placed on the MP for the area, Sanja Nanja.

The NDC MP is reported to have hurled insults at the queen mother on radio after a disagreement.

[contextly_sidebar id=”UkY2bssOknO8Dc5bExOEhuxfBLOmZqlV”]He was subsequently banned from entering the chief’s Palace and also banned from organizing any programme in the constituency.

Mr. Nanja later apologized for his actions via radio, but that is yet to be accepted by the traditional council.

Speaking to Citi News, the President of the Atebubu Amanten Youth Association, Asamoah Mensah, said the traditional council will decide his fate following the party’s visit.

“Ofosu Ampofo was here and we briefed him on what has happened. He was here with some members of the regional executives. Nananom has customs and tradition, we the youth have heard about the apology but Nananom haven’t and now he is banned from entering the palace. So if they come to render an apology on behalf of the MP…you cannot plead on the person’s behalf whilst he is not there,” he said.

Mr. Mensah further noted that they will meet on April 29, 2016 to decide on the next line of action.

Sanja Nanja begs for forgiveness

The MP during a media interview said he had withdrawn all the abusive words he used on the queen-mother and the traditional authority and pleaded for their forgiveness.

“…the queen-mother of Atebubu and I had a misunderstanding which resulted in me hurling insults on her out of anger. I want to use this platform to plead with the queen-mother and all the traditional heads of Atebubu to forgive me and receive me as the son I use to be.”

“I am putting a lot in place to render a proper form of apology to them; they should please forgive me. The queen-mother didn’t say anything against me. The radio on which I made that statement did not air the queen-mother’s comment to me to listen. I spoke out of anger not knowing what she said. I withdraw all the abusive statements I made,” he added.
