The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described as erroneous, claims that two separate albums\u00a0were used for the controversial Ablekuma West constituency primary.<\/p>\n
Some thirteen executive members of the party in the constituency resigned ahead of the primary held at the Dansoman Police Station in Accra on Saturday, after alleging that the National Executive Committee (NEC) allowed two different registers for the poll.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”jXMXQsoFuNvgmtWtHdgH5gZK7xFees21″]But the party’s communication directorate in a statement signed by the Director of Elections, Martin Adjei-Korsah, denied such claims, clarifying that the NEC took a decision to merge the two registers into a single one on March 30, which was subsequently used during Saturday\u2019s primary.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Election Directorate wishes to clarify that following the NEC decision of 30th March 2016, two albums were merged culminating in only ONE (1) album and which was used in the\u00a0election. It is therefore completely erroneous as some seek to suggest after the merger, that two separate albums existed for the election.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr. Korsah further congratulated delegates and aspirants for a massive turnout and their cooperation which ensured a smooth election.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe directorate congratulates delegates for a massive turnout as well as the aspirants for their cooperation which ensured a smooth, peaceful and successful election. Same goes to the Police Service and the Electoral Commission for their assistance.\u201d<\/p>\n
The incumbent MP, Madam Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, emerged winner in Saturday’s primary with\u00a0554 votes representing\u00a063.60%.<\/p>\n
Her only contender, Robert Kwesi Nicol, had\u00a0317\u00a0votes\u00a0representing 36.40%, \u00a0while the third aspirant, Theophilus Tetteh pulled out of the race explaining that he had issues with the register.<\/p>\n
He has since threatened to go independent.<\/p>\n
