A member of the New Patriotic Party\u2019s (NPP) communication team, Kwabena Sarpong is asking Waste Management Companies to use the seat of government; the Flagstaff House as an alternative dumping site.<\/p>\n
He also suggested that the office of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) should not be excluded from this drastic exercise because \u201cit is the only way government will get a feel of what is happening on the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n
Waste management companies in the Accra Metropolis have stopped the collecting rubbish in the city and they have blamed government indebtedness<\/span> to them and the lack of landfill sites for their action.<\/p>\n Landfill sites in the region can no longer accommodate more garbage which has left the Kpone landfill site to serve the whole of the Greater Accra region.<\/p>\n The shutting down of the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant at Adjin Kotoku has further aggravated the situation.<\/p>\n Speaking on Eyewitness News<\/strong>, Mr. Sarpong<\/span> stated that \u201cif Parliament is also shelving their responsibilities, they [waste management companies] would have to go there.\u201d<\/p>\n He insisted a strong message must be sent to government \u201cand so when we put the rubbish in front of these places, these guys will feel it, they will smell it, they will feel the ugliness of it. At the moment, they don\u2019t care.\u201d<\/p>\n The NPP communicator dismissed assertions that his call is a means to get Ghanaians to break the law, but rather blamed the government and the relevant stakeholder of breaking the law by shelving their responsibilities.<\/p>\n \u201cThe law says that when they collect our monies<\/span>, they should pay the garbage collectors. Have they not disobeyed the law?
