“If it is their first time, they must be asked to withdraw it immediately because it cannot hold. The ultimate will be to withdraw their certificate because their certificate is renewable,\u201d<\/p>\n
The comments follow what management of Reliance Personnel Services, a recruiting agency for Tigo Ghana, refers to as its inability to pay employees while on maternity leave.<\/p>\n
A memo informing the workers of this development also indicated that such persons may re-apply for the jobs but will only be re-engaged depending on vacancy and their performance.<\/p>\n
Already, Labour expert Austin Gammey has urged that a legal case is lodged at the National Labour Commission for redress.<\/p>\n
Seth Abloso also called on the Labour Department to tighten its monitoring of the operations of employment agencies in the country,<\/p>\n
\u201cThe private employment agencies are supposed to submit annual reports to the labour department for the attention of the sector minister and it is important that we trace these. How many have registered? How many submitted their annual reports? If they haven\u2019t done any of these, they need not be\u00a0allowed to operate. I also think that companies that need the services of these agencies need to check their standing with the labour department.” He stressed.<\/p>\n
