{"id":203631,"date":"2016-04-02T12:00:20","date_gmt":"2016-04-02T12:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=203631"},"modified":"2016-04-02T12:00:20","modified_gmt":"2016-04-02T12:00:20","slug":"203631","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/04\/203631\/","title":{"rendered":"Importers &#038; exporters plead with govt to amend port systems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Association of Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana have \u00a0pleaded with government to review the Gate-In and Gate-Out system implemented by customs at the ports.<\/p>\n<p>Its implementation was to help importers and exporters enjoy flexible and quick registration and checking at the ports.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;6iyqIAICoeGlFJlcQF5O87JOfo4owvWz&#8221;]However according to the association, it has rather impacting negatively on their operations.<\/p>\n<p>The association told Citi Business News, the gate in gate out system delays the retrieval of their documents and as a result slows down business, amounting in loss of income.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Citi Business News, Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association, Sampson Asaki Awingobit said the law must be amended to prevent revenue losses.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2018We are saying that once an importer has also collected insurance to cover the goods, then there is no need for us to Gate-in, Gate-out.<\/p>\n<p>The Gate-in could be done at the port because anytime the goods exit from the Tema port, that exercise must be done.<\/p>\n<p>But when they receive the cargo at the warehouse, and cargo is offloaded from the warehouse, and its inside the customs border warehouse, the resident officer is not around at the time to clear, then both importer and exporter will be locked out.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By:\u00a0 Jessica Ayorkor Aryee\/citibusinessnews.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Association of Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana have \u00a0pleaded with government to review the Gate-In and Gate-Out system implemented by customs at the ports.
