The national executives of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSSAG), on Friday met with the Minister of Employment to review their day-old strike over unpaid allowances.

The meeting, according to Citi News sources, follows another meeting held on Thursday with Labour Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, and a subsequent letter from government assuring the workers of its commitment to meet their demands.

[contextly_sidebar id=”xSVERvhqWrzVHRVBBVIsZTugDaqAmKFh”]JUSSAG embarked on the industrial action citing government’s failure to implement a new salary structure approved by the Judicial Council many months ago.

Citi News’ Fred Djabanor reported that both parties “are hoping to resolve the issue by close of day.”

Courts locked

When Citi News visited the High court premises in Accra, all the offices were locked.

Fred Djabnor observed that “nothing is happening at the court, all the court rooms are locked, and all the other offices located in the premises of the court are also locked.”

“Today we didn’t have a lot of people coming into the court to have their cases heard but there was one striking thing; Directors of the judicial service were not at post. Usually when there is a strike, these top officials remain at post but today none of them were at post. I’m talking about finance, works and structural development directors were are all not at post.”

Ashanti Region

In the Ashanti Region, Citi News’ correspondent reported from the Kumasi High and the Court of Appeal that litigants had to return home because the courts were locked.

A litigant told Citi News that “when I came the place was locked; All I could see are red bands on the doors. I am highly disappointed because I’ve wasted the whole day. That’s the reason why I came and because they are not working, I have to go and return later.”
