Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has appealed to fellow politicians to campaign on ideas and avoid the tactics of intimidating the electorate.<\/p>\n
He said elections are about development and the choices available to the people.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”Qd7cY90N7Qj7jCcuXntAtzxHHLUTRHzz”]Vice President Amissah-Arthur said this at the 40th anniversary of the Gonjaland Youth Association at Salaga in the Northern Region.<\/p>\n
He said government is committed to ensure that this year’s elections are transparent, free and fair.<\/p>\n
He expressed worry about the chieftaincy problems across many parts of the country largely due to confusion over the rightful successors.<\/p>\n
“In parts of our country, succession to chieftaincy has become a source of conflict. But the Gonja people demonstrate some of the most peaceful and best practices when it comes to ascensions to chieftaincy.”<\/p>\n
The Vice President \u00a0also appealed to the chiefs and people of Gonja to resolve all lingering succession issues.<\/p>\n
Vice President Amissah-Arthur said government’s transformation agenda is on course and will continue to deliver the infrastructure that provides the basis for economic and social development.<\/p>\n
“You have chosen for this celebration the theme: \u201c40 years of Promoting Peaceful Co-existence for Sustainable Development of Gonja land \u2013 the role of the Gonja land Youth Association.\u201d<\/p>\n
He used the occasion to commend the Gonjaland Youth Association for expanding and sustaining the association for 40 years.<\/p>\n
The Gonjaland Youth Association encompasses all youth from the five gates with the Yagbon Wura, Tumtumba Boresa, as the heads of the Gonjaland.<\/p>\n
The gates include Kpembi, Bole with Damongo, being the paramountcy.<\/p>\n
The association was formed 40 years ago in Kpembi near Salaga. The celebration was attended by the paramount chief of Effutu, Neenyi Ghartey, who chaired the programme.<\/p>\n
He urged the association to review its activities and chart a new path for the years ahead.<\/p>\n
