\u201cScratch it,\u201d an application (app) aimed at making it more convenient for tertiary institution applicants to purchase cards or forms to apply for admission, has won Vodafone Cash edition of Hackathon hosted by the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST).<\/p>\n
The second edition of Hackathon saw Scratch It beat fourteen other app development teams to scoop GH\u00a2 5000.00, six months free access to Vodafone Caf\u00e9, a platform on the Mobile App store, a GH\u00a2 200.00 Melcom voucher for each member, and Vodafone cash benefits.<\/p>\n
The competition which was held during the weekend saw different Vodafone Cash applications developed by each of group to solve problems under health, education, entertainment, agriculture or finance categories.<\/p>\n
Commenting on the brilliant ideas displayed by all 15 groups, Mr Julius Owusu Kyerematen, Director of Strategy and Innovations, Vodafone Ghana said Vodafone would support the best three apps to get into the market and hopefully get their ideas to the public within the few months.<\/p>\n
Mr Owusu Kyeremateng said Vodafone and Ghana is very positive about the solutions the app developers have initiated, stressing that it is in line with Ghana course to getting a cashlight society.<\/p>\n
Ms Blessing Onomesino, a member of the \u201cScratch It\u201d team said the app will help potential tertiary institution applicants get their application pin from any institution at any time to proceed with their registration online.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe idea was brought up because of the stress people go through to apply for admission into tertiary institutions due to numerous reasons including how distant one is from the institution\u201d Ms Ononesino hinted.<\/p>\n
Mr Nathan Amanquah, a Hackathon judge and lecturer at Ashesi University College said the criteria for selection of the winners included the viability of the initiative, the amount of revenue the app would carry, and the impact it would have on users.<\/p>\n
\u201cMedi Pay\u201d app team, an application meant to individuals to easily purchase drugs from local pharmacies, won the second position. The team received GH\u00a2 3000.00 while the \u201cU-tick\u201d app team, a mobile ticketing app that won third place, received GH\u00a2 1000.00 and other consolation prizes from Vodafone.<\/p>\n
