Government has described as “malicious” and “wicked,” claims that the Mahama-led administration is deliberately plotting to attack the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo and his running mate, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.

[contextly_sidebar id=”xMvXQS7XPx90dOW7MeXbtl3DJzyh25sX”]The acting chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay at a press conference on Thursday said the party has “every reason to believe that the lives of our [NPP] presidential candidate and his running mate are deliberately being exposed to high risk by the Mahama government.”

Mr. Blay made the comment in relation to the arrest of three South African ex police officers; Major Ahmed Shaik Hazis (rtd), 54; Warrant Officer Denver Dwayhe, 33, and Captain Mlungiseli Jokani, 45 who were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and unlawful training.

But responding to his [Mr. Blay’s] allegations, a statement from the Communications Ministry said: “the claim made by Freddie Blay defies comprehension. It is both false and malicious.”

“This is the most puerile defence ever attempted in a serious matter as this one. We note that since news broke of the arrest of the individuals, the NPP has rendered rumbling and incoherent responses in a bid to escape the widespread condemnation and public opprobrium they have suffered. This wicked lie however is the most ridiculous yet and only reflects the desperation arising out of lack of leadership that has beset the NPP,” it added.

The statement further noted that the NPP has “demonstrated over the years that it prefers violence and chaos as means of addressing disputes even within their party.”

The three South African ex-Police Officers were arrested on Sunday for allegedly training private security personnel of Nana Addo.

They were however granted bail to the tune of GHc 20,000 each with one surety by an Accra Circuit Court on Thursday.
