{"id":201470,"date":"2016-03-24T14:50:59","date_gmt":"2016-03-24T14:50:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=201470"},"modified":"2016-03-24T14:50:59","modified_gmt":"2016-03-24T14:50:59","slug":"bni-infringing-on-rights-of-sa-security-trainers-atta-akyea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/03\/bni-infringing-on-rights-of-sa-security-trainers-atta-akyea\/","title":{"rendered":"BNI infringing on rights of SA security trainers &#8211; Atta Akyea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The legal team for the three South African ex-police officers who were arrested in the Central Region for allegedly\u00a0training the security team of the New Patriotic Party&#8217;s (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo,\u00a0has accused the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) of infringing on their clients&#8217; rights.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"7tf5k\" data-offset-key=\"8inrq-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8inrq-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"8inrq-0-0\"><span data-text=\"true\">An Accra Circuit Court<\/span><\/span><span data-offset-key=\"db00k-0-0\"><span data-text=\"true\">\u00a0ruled that the three South Africans\u00a0be granted bail to the tune of GHc 20,000, each with one surety.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8inrq-0-0\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8inrq-0-0\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;FDH9eRDXafUPAGcOoaLRNN88IcK0Ocrm&#8221;]The three, Major Ahmed Shaik Hazis (rtd), 54; Warrant Officer Denver Dwayhe, 33, and Captain Mlungiseli Jokani, 45 have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and unlawful training.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The judge ordered that the accused persons be held in the court registry pending the fulfillment of their bail conditions, but the BNI defied the\u00a0order and sent them to their headquarters for holding.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This outraged the lawyers for the accused persons, one of them being Samuel\u00a0Atta Akyea, who had earlier demanded that their clients be held in the court registry and released pending the fulfillment of their bail conditions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to him, the BNI are behaving like they exist in a \u201cKangaroo\u201d country by flouting the directive of the Court of law.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDon\u2019t give any impression that this a kangaroo country in which they treat people anyhow. How can a Court of competent jurisdiction say take the accused to the registry and then go and look at the house of the sureties so that bail is granted, and then you just whisk them away defying the order of the court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr. Atta Akyea also said the BNI is deliberately attempting to frustrate the bail process so they can hold the suspects over the Easter holiday period which will end next week Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt is going to carry far reaching consequences for them. If they do not go through bail processes today and they are detained&#8230; it will have serious implications. We are not going to joke with this matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He stated that the legal team of the\u00a0three South Africans\u00a0will bring the BNI to order using legal avenues.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBut it&#8217;s going to have grave consequences for them.
