Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), has awarded a full scholarship to Jessica Ayeley Quaye, the overall best student at the 2015 WASSCE organized by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).<\/p>\n
This was at the WAEC Distinction Awards to recognize the top performing students in the 2015 WASSCE.<\/p>\n
Some dignitaries present at the event included the Minister of Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, the Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Mr Jacob Kor, the head of the WAEC Ghana office, Very Rev. Dr. Sam Nii Ollenu, Ghana\u2019s representative on the WAEC Endowment Fund, Prof. W.A Asomaning, and the Chief Executive Officer of UMB, Mr. Joh Awuah.<\/p>\n
In his address, the Chief Executive Officer of UMB, Mr. John Awuah stated that UMB is honoured to partner with the WAEC to award outstanding students.<\/p>\n
He recounted that last year\u2019s winner, Master Hassan Michail, who could not get into the university because of financial constraints is currently studying at the KNUST as a result of UMB\u2019s intervention.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe story of Hassan is why we are committed to this partnership and why I personally look forward to continuing this partnership\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n
Mr. Awuah was elated that the award winners were all women and congratulated Wesley Girls High School for producing all the three top winners.<\/p>\n
The full scholarship will cater for Jessica\u2019s tuition, accommodation and books for the entire duration of her university programme.\u00a0 She was also presented with a brand new laptop and some souvenirs from UMB.<\/p>\n
Two other students, Ruth Ewura-Ama Awudzi and Danielle Amo-Mensah who were the second and third highest scorers in the 2015 WASSCE respectively, also received a laptop each and some souvenirs from UMB.<\/p>\n
Speaking on behalf of her fellow award winners, Jessica Ayeley Quaye expressed her appreciation to the WAEC Endowment Fund and especially UMB for the recognition and promised to not rest on her laurels.<\/p>\n
