The National Executive Committee of the United Progressive Party (UPP), has dismissed its Chairman and flagbearer, Akwesi Addai Odike.<\/p>\n
The dismissal comes on the back of what the NEC says is gross disrespect for the party\u2019s constitution on his part.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”iSGIWHMhp5vExNVU6klrRDJwIilpvDyh”]Speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, Acting National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bashiru Zakari, said the UPP has officially written to the Electoral Commission informing it of the\u00a0decision.<\/p>\n He said Mr. Odike among other things \u201cfailed to call a meeting\u201d after meeting with the party\u2019s General secretary.<\/p>\n \u201cHe didn\u2019t call a meeting and just called a few people and appointed his own son as acting General Secretary of the party. That\u2019s the concern of the National Executive members. We had a meeting on Friday\u00a0from all the regions in Kumasi. I chaired it and we have signatures of all the national executive committee members for Odike’s dismissal,\u201d he\u00a0explained.<\/p>\n He argued that the decision will not in any way affect the party.<\/p>\n Over a thousand delegates of the UPP in 2015 endorsed Akwasi Addai Odike as its first flagbearer for the 2016 elections.<\/p>\n Mr Odike, was also endorsed as the National Chairman of the party which received its final certificate of formation from the electoral Commission (EC) in the same year.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
