Back in October last year, news surfaced that over a billion Android devices might be\u00a0exploited through a vulnerability in the multimedia library.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since then Google has issued multiple patches,\u00a0but Stagefright\u2019s problems\u00a0keep on coming back.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NorthBit says\u00a0that devices running Android versions 2.2 through 4.0 as well as 5.0 and 5.1 are most susceptible to the new exploit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The research additionally estimates that there\u2019s\u00a0about 275 million devices running the compromised versions, though it is difficult to tell how many of them might be at danger.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NorthBit\u00a0says\u00a0that particularly vulnerable to attacks are Nexus 5 devices running stock ROM.\u00a0Other models that the company\u00a0has successfully hacked include HTC One, LG G3 and Samsung S5.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fortunately, attackers won\u2019t have an easy time hacking your phone \u2013 not unless they manage to trick you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As NorthBit shows in this video, exploiting Stagefright\u2019s new vulnerability\u00a0involves a fair degree of social engineering, making it\u00a0much less likely for hackers to succeed in their attempts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Attackers\u00a0won\u2019t be able to bypass your security unless you get tricked into clicking an infected link and staying on that Web page\u00a0long enough for the exploit to complete \u2013 a process that could take anything between a few seconds and two minutes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So until Google issues its next fix for Stagefright, Android users better tread the Web lightly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Source:\u00a0thenextweb.com<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Israeli-based software research agency, NorthBit, has released a report that claims millions of Android devices\u00a0might be vulnerable to hacking.
