{"id":199889,"date":"2016-03-18T12:28:32","date_gmt":"2016-03-18T12:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=199889"},"modified":"2016-03-18T12:28:32","modified_gmt":"2016-03-18T12:28:32","slug":"zanetor-pushes-for-dismissal-of-suit-against-her-candidature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/03\/zanetor-pushes-for-dismissal-of-suit-against-her-candidature\/","title":{"rendered":"Zanetor pushes for dismissal of suit against her candidature"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lawyers of Dr. Zanetor Rawlings have filed a motion for the dismissal of the case challenging her eligibility to represent the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a Parliamentary Candidate for the Klottey-Korle Constituency in the November elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Zanetor&#8217;s eligibility is being challenged by the incumbent MP for the Constituency, Nii Armah Ashitey.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;Jz7r1th5B1r0VC5ragsvxoDfPy3rEUCk&#8221;]Nii Armah Ashietey and one Nii John Coleman (who also lost in the primary) filed a suit praying the Court to prevent Dr. Rawlings from holding herself out as Parliamentary Candidate-elect for the constituency on the ticket of the NDC.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ctx-sidebar-container ctx-sidebar-container--mx7C8T05UtJUaCREpmMszTxJX0oyATeJ\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the suit, the two claimed Dr. Zanetor\u2019s election was unlawful because she is not a registered voter.<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nii John Coleman has since pulled out of the case leaving Ashietey alone.\u00a0According to the motion filed by Dr. Zanetor&#8217;s counsel, the High Court lacked jurisdiction over the matter due to the constitutional interpretation being sought.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They further argued that the entire action brought before the court is premature.\u00a0The High Court last month dismissed a similar motion brought by Zanetor Rawlings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Fred Djabanor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lawyers of Dr. Zanetor Rawlings have filed a motion for the dismissal of the case challenging her eligibility to represent the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a Parliamentary Candidate for the Klottey-Korle Constituency in the November elections.
