Following their roles in the payment of bribes to judges in Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ video that exposed widespread corruption in the judiciary, the Judicial Council has dismissed 19 judicial service workers who were indicted in the scandal.<\/p>\n
The affected workers included court registrars, interpreters and a watchman, who are said to have received bribes in various sums to help influence judgments.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”p91SMiTz6mbwI5tmyVwzLcWv0FWBqJwq”]The information was contained in a statement signed by the Judicial Secretary Justice Alex Opoku B. Acheampong.<\/p>\n
According to the statement, the workers were “dismissed for consciously and willingly acting as conduits between representatives of Tigereyepi and the judges, and for illegally demanding and receiving various sums of monies for the judges and themselves.”<\/p>\n
Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, captured some 34 judges and scores of judicial service workers on video allegedly taking bribes to influence judgments.<\/p>\n
The Chief Justice subsequently formed various\u00a0committees to investigate the matter to enable her make a determination. About 23 of the judges have so far been dismissed.<\/p>\n
