Former Fifa president Sepp Blatter has taken his appeal against a six-year ban from football to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).<\/p>\n
Blatter, 80, was barred by world football’s governing body after being found guilty of ethics breaches over a $2m (\u00a31.3m) “disloyal payment” to former Uefa head Michel Platini.<\/p>\n
Platini, who was also banned, launched his own appeal bid with Cas last month.<\/p>\n
Cas confirmed Blatter’s action in a short statement on Thursday.<\/p>\n
“Mr Blatter seeks the annulment of the decision taken by the Fifa Appeal Committee in which he was suspended from all football-related activities at national and international level for six years,” it said.<\/p>\n
Blatter and Platini, who both deny wrongdoing, indicated they would take their cases to Cas after losing their appeals with Fifa last month – although they did succeed in having their initial eight-year suspensions reduced to six years.<\/p>\n
They claim the payment, made in 2011, related to a gentleman’s agreement made in 1998 for work carried out by the Frenchman when he was a technical advisor for Blatter.<\/p>\n
Blatter was Fifa president from 1998 until being forced to stand down over the issue last year. He has since been replaced by Platini’s number two at Uefa, Gianni Infantino.
