For us, this is non-negotiable. It is a priority as a government of Nana Addo-Dunkwa Akufo-Addo and in the very first budget in the year 2017, we will restore teacher and nursing training allowances,\u201d Dr. Bawumia added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The NPP on its campaign trail <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/12\/21\/npp-will-restore-allowance-for-teachers-nurses-bawumia\/\" target=\"_blank\">has promised to restore the allowances<\/a><\/strong><\/span> which have been scrapped under the President John Mahama\u2019s National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Government has scrapped the allowance system and urged the\u00a0trainees to access the student loan scheme.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to government, the allowance has outlived its usefulness and has also curtailed enrollment which has now improved since it was scrapped.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There have been several student protests to get the allowance restored, but government has insisted on maintaining the new policy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But the NPP has argued the policy is not friendly and will only burden trainees. They believe government only took the decision because it needs money, after mismanaging the country&#8217;s resources.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking to students of the St. Francis College of Education in Hohoe in the Volta Region, Dr. Bawumia said the NPP will bring back the allowances.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Scrapping allowances was a mistake <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bawumia told the students that \u201cthis policy of abolishing teacher and nursing training allowances is a mistake; it\u2019s is a mistake that Nana Addo Dunkwa Akufo Addo will correct.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Godwin A.
