{"id":19872,"date":"2014-05-21T09:40:42","date_gmt":"2014-05-21T09:40:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=19872"},"modified":"2014-05-21T09:41:54","modified_gmt":"2014-05-21T09:41:54","slug":"acep-report-factually-inaccurate-ghana-gas-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/05\/acep-report-factually-inaccurate-ghana-gas-2\/","title":{"rendered":"ACEP report factually inaccurate &#8211; Alfred Ogbamey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Officials of the Ghana Gas Company Limited have denied the details in the report released by \u00a0think tank, African Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) over the signing of some international oil agreements describing it as factually inaccurate.<\/p>\n<p>ACEP in a report released on Tuesday questioned the basis on which some three agreements were signed by the Ghana Gas Company.<\/p>\n<p>The report titled \u2018Ghana Gas, Questionable deals and the national interest, how Ghana\u2019s quest for energy security faces imminent danger; questioned why the Ghana Gas Company awarded the contract for construction of a power plant to GTG Limited without going through any competitive tendering process.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to<strong>\u00a0Citi News<\/strong>, the Communications Manager of the Ghana Gas Company, Alfred Ogbamey said: \u201cNobody in this country has the right whatsoever to proceed on the basis of ill-informed suspicion, on the suspicions that have no basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to him, his outfit followed due process in awarding the said contracts to the oil companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis whole project has gone through various phases based on sound technical advice,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Ogbamey pointed out that the fact that there are visible variations \u201cin terms of decisions, does not mean that the intent was criminal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ghana Gas has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Quantum Terminals Ltd which will\u00a0build and operate an LPG holding facility with exclusive rights for 25 years and\u00a0will solely market the Ghana Gas LPG in the downstream market.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana Gas is also said to have signed a joint venture with Afgen to build ACEP believes Ghana Gas is exporting jobs outside the country by building a Liquefied Natural Gas re-gasification facility in Benin although the gas is from Ghana transported through the West African Gas Pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>The ACEP report noted that the lack of transparency in the activities of Ghana Gas and the failure of government to act decisively on matters of the gas development \u201cis beginning to cast doubt in the minds of the International Oil Companies about the country\u2019s determination to apply the gas to the benefits of the people of Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<br \/>\n<a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/osamidan\" data-show-count=\"false\">Follow @osamidan<\/a><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\/\/ <![CDATA[\n!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],p=\/^http:\/.test(d.location)?'http':'https';if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=p+':\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js';fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document, 'script', 'twitter-wjs');\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Officials of the Ghana Gas Company Limited have denied the details in the report released by \u00a0think tank, African Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) over the signing of some international oil agreements describing it as factually inaccurate.
