Mobile security company Lookout launched a new Apple Watch app Tuesday that aims to keep you from losing your phone (and makes it a little easier to find it if you have lost it.)<\/p>\n
The app essentially acts as a digital leash for your iPhone, with a few features that help you track down your phone even if the you are out of range.<\/p>\n
First, it uses the strength of the bluetooth connection between your phone and your watch to set a distance meter that shows how far away you are from your phone. If you do move out of range and lose the bluetooth connection, the Watch app will buzz your wrist.<\/p>\n
Lookout has also included a couple features that may help, should your phone be lost or stolen. Even if you’re not connected to your phone, the Watch app will show you the last location where your phone and watch were connected. If you still can’t find it, the app has a “scream” feature that could scare away potential thieves.<\/p>\n
Once triggered, the app will cause your phone to emit a loud alarm that will (hopefully) help you track it down. The feature is similar to Apple’s Find My iPhone app, which also helps you track lost devices through loud alarms (though Apple’s services doesn’t yet offer an Apple Watch version.)<\/p>\n
Lookout’s app could be particularly useful though because you don’t have to log into a new device to track it down and your iPhone and watch don’t need to actively be connected for the scream to go through \u2014 as long as your phone has a Wi-Fi connection.<\/p>\n
Lookout’s Apple Watch app is available now with the latest version of the company’s iOS app, which also offers other theft prevention tools.<\/p>\n
