{"id":196989,"date":"2016-03-08T09:51:43","date_gmt":"2016-03-08T09:51:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=196989"},"modified":"2016-03-08T09:51:43","modified_gmt":"2016-03-08T09:51:43","slug":"tax-stamp-duty-businesses-meet-government-possible-suspension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/03\/tax-stamp-duty-businesses-meet-government-possible-suspension\/","title":{"rendered":"Tax stamp duty: Businesses to meet government over possible suspension"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some importers have told <strong>Citi Business News<\/strong> they are contemplating whether or not to attend a meeting involving government officials over their concerns on the excise tax stamp duty which took effect yesterday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;LpjtYKUnSvAE62zzP4CbKTDV6e1wtLDG&#8221;]The planned meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 10, and it will involve officials from the Finance Ministry, the customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, importers and freight forwarders.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The importers are seeking for the suspension of the tax stamp duty following what they refer to as the lack of consultation as well as excessive delays in the clearance process the policy will bring unto them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Already some importers have hinted of possible increases in prices of products if the GRA goes ahead with the implementation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana, Sampson Awingobit Asaaki tells <strong>Citi Business News <\/strong>they are anticipating a suspension of the policy after the meeting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe are still contemplating to see whether we will honor it or not, my office has received that letter and we will give them the benefit of the doubt. We will go and listen to what they will say and we will see how best, whether they have listened to our grievances,\u201d He stated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThey may have good news for us or they may have factored some of our suggestions into it and perhaps different dimensions to the introduction of the tax stamp.
