A human interest lawyer, Sam Pee Yalley is calling on authorities at the LEKMA Hospital to investigate how a photo of the late P V Obeng lying on a stretcher at the morgue got into the public domain.<\/p>\n
The former chairman of the National Development Planning Commission and the Senior Advisor to the President died after he suffered an asthma attack on the Spintex road in Accra last Saturday.<\/p>\n
A photo of him at the morgue got onto some social media on Sunday and was subsequently published in the Daily Guide newspaper on Monday.<\/p>\n
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the National Media Commission (NMC) have both condemned Daily Guide\u2019s publication of the said photo.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, Mr. Pee Yalley said the morgue official who took the photo should be punished accordingly.<\/p>\n He mentioned that the LEKMA Hospital is a public institution and the laid down procedures which admits people into the hospitals morgue \u201cdoes not include photography and so LEKMA would have to find out who took that picture and the state would have to deal with that person.\u201d<\/p>\n Mr. Yalley pointed out that Ghana\u2019s customs and culture treats the dead with dignity and so it is imperative for Ghanaians to be \u201csensitive to the pain of the family.\u201d<\/p>\n He said the incident is indicative of the \u201cdepth of indignity and ingratitude that we find ourselves in.\u201d<\/p>\n He was optimistic that the case could be dealt with legally to serve as a deterrent to persons who abuse the privacy of others on social media.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
