{"id":196705,"date":"2016-03-07T07:56:52","date_gmt":"2016-03-07T07:56:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=196705"},"modified":"2016-03-07T07:56:52","modified_gmt":"2016-03-07T07:56:52","slug":"196705","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/03\/196705\/","title":{"rendered":"Business\u2019 strike halts full implementation of excise tax stamp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Manufacturers and Importers will from today, be required to emboss tax stamps on their products before releasing them unto the market.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;WQNmkn58usAFdHvDqY1WL4ieGpWQrwEM&#8221;]This follows the implementation of the excise tax stamp policy by the Ghana Revenue Authority.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While some manufacturers are expected to start complying with the directive from today, <strong>Citi Business News<\/strong> understands importers clearing their goods at the ports may have to wait a while longer following the strike by some business organizations including freight forwarders and the importers and exporters association.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The business organizations are challenging the policy, citing inadequate consultation, an increased cost of operation as well as excessive delays at the ports as their bases.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An executive of the Technical Committee of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders, John Mantey has been speaking to <strong>Citi Business News<\/strong> about the concerns of the business organizations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI don\u2019t even know the idea behind that whether to protect the local consumer or whom are we protecting? Every single box you have to put a stamp on it; one person brings in a machine, sets it somewhere\u2026 now go to the port, the queues there, get those goods on the truck you take them to another place and then you have to offload them-labour, you will have to pay for that,\u201d John Mantey remarked.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhere are we going as a country? The standard board\u2019s stamp is on every single item that is imported into the country. Let\u2019s think about these things and make sure something better is done.
