Management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has disputed claims that the Eye Centre will be shut down on Monday March 7 as a result of some structural defects in the building.

[contextly_sidebar id=”k3PBZryKkinMeiZIHAV9fbiVcUmO23Gy”]Citi News reported of a document it sighted, the content of which indicated that the Korle Eye Center would be closed down on Monday March 7, due to poor ventilation and high temperatures in the centre.

The statement further attributes the purported closure to some serious physical defects within the structure of the Eye Centre.

But Public Relations Officer of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Mustapha Salifu, has disputed the report.

He said when the hospital decides that for some reasons there was the need to suspend certain services, “there are protocols that we follow before we arrive at such conclusion.”

“So for now, we have not closed the Eye centre but if at any particular time we find it necessary to do that, we will follow the due process and protocols and come out and announce to the out-patients and the general public. For now, I want to state on record that we have not issued any statement to that effect,” he added.

Korle-Bu recently shutdown three clinics at the hospital in February, which included the General Surgery, Neurosurgery and Urology centres.

Authorities explained that they needed to carry out some works at these clinics to improve healthcare, but that explanation was later contested by senior medical officers at the Hospital.
