The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asante Akyem North Municipality in the Ashanti Region, has confirmed the death of two persons in\u00a0Agogo Township, where \u00a0a protracted conflict between local farmers and nomadic Fulani herdsmen still persist.<\/p>\n
The latest casualty which occurred on Friday follows renewed clashes there.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”4RZ4WWLSaGVSACxkeK2D6q5stHTD0Xe5″]The deceased persons, David Atiah, 25, and another who is yet to be identified, were allegedly shot dead at close range by a Fulani herdsman following an altercation.<\/p>\n
There is uneasy calm in Agogo after residents in the area, led by the MP, Kwadwo Baah Agyeman declared war against Fulani herdsmen who they accused of destroying their farms and killing locals there.<\/p>\n
Confirming the latest incident to Citi News,<\/strong>\u00a0the District Chief, Paul Kingsley Aweh, said they have begun investigations into the matter.<\/p>\n \u201cI was in the office in the afternoon when I got the information that two men had been shot in the bush on their farms,\u201d Mr. Aweh told Citi News.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cEarlier, a passenger was shot at the back and they demanded for money. I believe he was killed because he was not able to get money for them. Yesterday [Friday] in the morning too, there was somebody who came to report that he was in the village with his wife and there was gunfire. He turned around and saw a gun pointed at him and \u00a0another person holding a cutlass over his wife and because they were able to give them money, they were allowed to go so that is what is happening now\u2026 The Fulanis have now turned into criminals, going around terrorizing people.”<\/p>\n Mr. Aweh believes these Fulanis who were sacked from the area have returned to revenge over their eviction.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat I know for sure is that, most of the Fulanis who moved away, some lost their cattle and others too the few cattle that they had left, they left them at Affram Plains area and then returned to revenge\u2026this is the kind of vengeance they\u00a0 want to inflict on the people.”<\/p>\n <\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Marian Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
