Former National Youth Organizer of the People\u2019s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan, has filed yet another suit against the Electoral Commission, this time praying the Supreme Court to stop\u00a0it\u00a0from organizing the March 29 bye election in the Abuakwa North constituency.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”zb5Xv8ygAsx0PO1S6MLIPEAsV1OWHL9G”]He argues that it will be “contemptuous” for the Electoral Commission to conduct the by-election in Abuakwa using the current voters’ register.<\/p>\n
The Abuakwa North seat became vacant following the gruesome killing\u00a0of the Member of Parliament for the area, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu.<\/p>\n
Abu Ramadan is also asking the Supreme Court to stop the EC from opening the register for new registration, which is scheduled for next month until the court makes a decision.<\/p>\n
Reliefs<\/strong><\/p>\n Abu Ramadan is seeking the following reliefs<\/p>\n NPP man’s suit<\/strong><\/p>\n A few days ago, the\u00a0Brong Ahafo Regional Youth Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, also filed a suit at the Supreme Court, challenging the eligibility<\/a><\/strong><\/span> of some names on the voters\u2019 register, to be used for the 2016 general elections this November.<\/p>\n Per the suit, the EC and the Attorney General are expected to file a statement of defense within 14 days.<\/p>\n Kwame Baffoe is seeking ten reliefs, which \u00a0included an order compelling the defendants to compile a new and credible national voters\u2019 register for use in this year\u2019s\u00a0general election.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Marian Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana\n
