{"id":193052,"date":"2016-02-24T14:46:20","date_gmt":"2016-02-24T14:46:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=193052"},"modified":"2016-02-24T14:46:20","modified_gmt":"2016-02-24T14:46:20","slug":"govt-doesnt-know-its-debt-stock-bawumia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/02\/govt-doesnt-know-its-debt-stock-bawumia\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov&#8217;t doesn\u2019t know its debt stock &#8211; Bawumia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, economist and running mate for New Patriotic Party\u2019s \u00a02016 Presidential Candidate, has yet again lashed out at President John Mahama and his National Democratic Congress administration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to him, government does not know the total amount it has borrowed so far.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He also in a\u00a0post on his Facebook page on Wednesday, lashed out at government officials saying \u201cthey don\u2019t read.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;cJ8s6akDGHWiAmFEY159GhucYbeumMJx&#8221;]\u201cWhat is clear to me (and confirms my long held suspicion) is that, members of this government, handed the mandate to manage our destinies as a nation, do not read. Worst of all, as I said on 14th February, 2015, at a forum at the University for Development Studies, what is most unfortunate about this whole episode is the fact that, the government doesn\u2019t even seem to know how much it has borrowed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Bawumia, at the forum at the University for Development Studies, rubbished claims by the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC), that it has transformed the country by undertaking a number of projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He outlined six reasons why Ghanaians must reject the NDC\u2019s attempt to hoodwink the public on claims of massive investments in projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Misleading claims<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, government descended heavily on Dr. Bawumia for making such claims against them describing it as &#8220;misleading.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A statement signed by the Communications Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah, said Bawumia made those comments to \u201ccreate doubts about the unprecedented investments made in all spheres of our national life by President John Dramani Mahama\u2019s Government.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_166738\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-166738\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-166738\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/omane-boamah_600x399.jpg\" alt=\"Dr. Omane Boamah\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/omane-boamah_600x399.jpg 600w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/omane-boamah_600x399-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-166738\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr. Omane Boamah<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt is instructive that after years of living in denial that these projects exist, he has finally acknowledged their existence except that he wants to tread down the path of discrediting them for partisan gain,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Deceit and propaganda<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But Dr. Bawumia who still holds on to his claims, said several\u00a0attempts to educate government particularly on its debt stock,\u00a0have been\u00a0unsuccessful.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI have on several occasions tried to educate the government on what the true value of their borrowing is, but try as I do, it is clear the government is committed to either not reading and understanding the extent of their reckless borrowing or is only following their usual path of deceit and propaganda,\u201d he added in his recent piece.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/RESPONSE-BY-DR-BAWUMIA-TO-GOVERNMENT-PROPAGANDA.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\">Click here for the full statement:<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Godwin A.
