He was replaced by Charlotte Osei, who was picked from the National Commission for Education Education (NCCE) as the first female to head the electoral body.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;i8dmF8czQhHLu9MwIgHf94yGsUuH5T9Z&#8221;]Madam\u00a0Osei&#8217;s relationship with the political parties has got off to a rocky start, particularly with the NPP, whose petition for a new voters&#8217; register to be created, was rejected by her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Saturday, the EC announced that the 18-member Steering Committee created ahead of the polls had not been suspended despite reports on Friday indicating that it had done so after an Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The EC&#8217;s latest announcement has not gone down well with the NPP, who have questioned its relevance and composition of members.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The party had initially indicated their support for\u00a0Madam Osei when she first assumed her role, where they\u00a0called on her to &#8220;resolve the many challenges she is inheriting from Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan, her predecessor&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However,\u00a0according to them, the recent decisions made by the EC Chairperson shows that she is still a long way from her much-maligned predecessor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This conclusion on Charlotte Osei comes at a time when she is yet to conduct her first major election after only overseeing two by-elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAs for the present EC boss,\u00a0she is a pale shadow of Dr. Afari Gyan;\u00a0comparatively, Dr Afari Gyan was better,\u201d\u00a0Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Nana Obiri Boahene told <strong>Citi News.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>EC&#8217;s U-Turn surprising<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_180472\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-180472\" style=\"width: 462px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-180472\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/charlotte-osei.jpg\" alt=\"Charlotte Osei, EC Chairperson\" width=\"462\" height=\"331\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-180472\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Charlotte Osei, EC Chairperson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nana Obiri Boahene said some of the EC staff have outlived their\u00a0usefulness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAs the Electoral Commission of Ghana, if you consider the utterances and comments of\u00a0some of the members, you will know that they have outlived their usefulness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A frustrated Boahene said the Commission can decide to handover its entire mandate to the steering committee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThey can decide to, as it were, hand over all functions of the EC as spelt out in the constitution to the Steering Committee. Who cares?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The General Secretary of the People&#8217;s National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed, in commenting on the EC&#8217;s U-turn said the Commission is needlessly complicating the issues at stake.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHaving conceded that they\u2019ve erred, it will be difficult for the Commission to say the committee should continue with its\u00a0work whilst.
