Various teacher unions have denied knowledge of a scheduled meeting with government today [Monday].

Last Friday, the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations Haruna Iddrisu told Citi News there was a planned meeting with the teacher unions later today, to discuss their concerns over the non-payment of arrears.

But the General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), David Ofori Acheampong in an interview with Citi News, said the Association is not aware of the supposed Monday meeting.

“I was in the office the whole of last Saturday, no letter of that sort came so when we get to the office and there is a meeting of that sort, we will discuss and see whether it is relevant that we go. We have a problem, the employer has come to tell us that they don’t owe us so if there is a meeting, what are they going to tell us?,” he said

“The GES came out on Friday to emphatically say they don’t owe teachers. If they don’t owe us why do you need us in a meeting? Are they now going to tell us that they owe us for which we must meet?” he further queried.

The acting President of Coalition of Concerned Teachers, King Ali Awudu, says the Coalition will not attend any meeting held by government until their concerns are tackled.

“We declined to attend the meeting last week and of course when the letter comes, we will still decline to attend because the issue that we have held several meetings on the issues we have raised.”
