{"id":192170,"date":"2016-02-22T09:45:55","date_gmt":"2016-02-22T09:45:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=192170"},"modified":"2016-02-22T09:45:55","modified_gmt":"2016-02-22T09:45:55","slug":"192170","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/02\/192170\/","title":{"rendered":"Petroleum Ministry opposes listing GNPC &#038; TOR on GSE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Petroleum Ministry has objected to suggestions that government lists the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Ministry argues that government\u2019s continuous support to those state institutions is to make them viable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;JUwKrh4UGKItItJMlafUz9w4CST9GkCW&#8221;]Civil society groups including the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative have made strong cases for GNPC and TOR to be <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2016\/02\/15\/189709\/\" target=\"_blank\">listed<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to them, the move will make them competitive following their systemic inefficiencies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But the Head of Communications at the Ministry, Edward Bawa disagrees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He tells <strong>Citi Business News<\/strong> supporting the institutions to improve efficiency will ultimately restore confidence in the public.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe have learnt our lessons from the mining companies that if we do not have a higher stake in the oil company, we cannot get the full benefits from the resource. The only way we can do that is to have a national oil company that can compete with the International Oil Companies (IOC).
