The Northern Regional leadership of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied media reports that its Chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu, is unable to account for some 50, 000 Ghana cedis given to him by the party.

According to reports, the money which is to be used for party activities has been diverted into the private account of Bugri Naabu.

[contextly_sidebar id=”sNpY63qUrD5l8f6WA5lP32M3HP9CsozR”]The incident is said to have angered some party executives in the region who have vowed to use all available means to retrieve the money.

The report claimed that a crunch meeting organized to discuss the matter and to retrieve the cash, was inconclusive because Bugri Naabu threatened to suspend whoever challenged his leadership style.

But speaking to Citi News, Northern Regional Director of Communications for the NPP, Mohammed Kudus, said nobody has diverted any party funds.

He insisted that the said report is “absolutely false.

““I’m not sure where this particular conjecture is coming from. We’ve not had any meeting that suggested any discussion of that sort to even bring about a disagreement. So this particular diversion came to a lot of us as a big surprise. We don’t know where it is coming from. It appears as a certain conjecture, speculation and gossip that was put together but the fact of the matter is that it is absolutely not true,” he added.

A statement from the party’s regional directorate said the last time they “held a meeting was on Friday 19 February, 2016. The meeting was highly attended and successful with one agenda of inaugurating the regional campaign team and that has since come to pass. There was no discussion of any GH 50,000,” he insisted.
