The Electoral Commission has set Tuesday, March 29, 2016, to conduct\u00a0a by-election in the Abuakwa North constituency of the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n

The by-election has been necessitated by the death of the Member of Parliament for the area, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, who was allegedly killed\u00a0by a teenager on February 9, 2016.<\/p>\n

Nominations for the election will be taken on Tuesday, March 1 and Wednesday, March 2, at the District Office of the Commission at Tafo in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n

The killing <\/strong><\/p>\n

JB Danquah was allegedly killed by 19-year-old Daniel Asiedu at his residence at Shiashi in Accra, where he lived with his family.<\/p>\n

Daniel Asiedu, who confessed to killing the MP,\u00a0said he went there to steal but not to kill. The suspect said he killed the MP because he engaged him in \u00a0struggle.<\/p>\n

About J.B Danquah<\/strong><\/p>\n

The late Joseph Boakye Danquah, once served as a Deputy Minister for Women and Children\u2019s Affairs. He was the Abuakwa North MP from 2000 until 2008, when he lost the seat to the NPP\u2019s Prof. Samuel Amoako.<\/p>\n

He returned in 2012 to win the seat. He left behind a wife and two children. Joseph Boakye Danquah, a chartered Accountant by profession, is the grandson of late J.B Danquah, a Ghanaian statesman, pan-Africanist, scholar and historian, who played a significant role in pre- and post-colonial Ghana.<\/p>\n

PARLIAMENTARY BY-ELECTION \u2013 ABUAKWA NORTH CONSTITUENCY<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following the death of the Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa North Constituency, Hon. Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu and in accordance with Article 112(5) of the Constitution, as amended, the Electoral Commission will hold a by-election in the constituency on Tuesday, the 29th Day of March, 2016.<\/p>\n

Nominations for the election will be taken on Tuesday the 1st day of March and Wednesday the 2nd day of March, 2016 at the District Office of the Commission at Tafo in the Eastern Region, from 9:00am to 12:00noon and 2:00pm to 5:00pm both days.<\/p>\n

Nomination forms may be obtained from the District Office or the Regional Office of the Commission at Koforidua.<\/p>\n

Candidates for the election shall provide two recent photographs (bust) with red background, showing the full face and both ears.<\/p>\n

The filing fee for the election is One Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH\u00a21,000.00).<\/p>\n

All interested candidates and political parties are to take note and be guided accordingly.<\/p>\n
