{"id":191978,"date":"2016-02-21T11:51:14","date_gmt":"2016-02-21T11:51:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=191978"},"modified":"2016-02-21T11:51:14","modified_gmt":"2016-02-21T11:51:14","slug":"employment-minister-to-meet-teachers-over-arrears","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/02\/employment-minister-to-meet-teachers-over-arrears\/","title":{"rendered":"Employment Minister to meet teachers over arrears\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu, is to meet with with the various teacher unions to ensure that issues regarding their outstanding arrears are rectified.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The meeting, which is expected to be held on Monday according to the Minister, will enable both parties to reach an agreement before the February ending deadline.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;3ZM55GsgAK4WPO2QvBYXt6nXbuHJZ7dS&#8221;]The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) have threatened to embark on a nationwide strike by the end of the month if government fails to pay them their accumulated allowances.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But in an interview with <strong>Citi News,<\/strong> Haruna Iddrisu was hopeful the teachers will be paid by the end of February.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI have conveyed formal notice to them to meet them on Monday.\u00a0I know that they do have some engagement with the Labour Commission, and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission&#8217;s Chief Executive is also reaching out to them.\u00a0I will engage them on those matters but I believe that we can thread the needle before the 29<sup>th<\/sup> deadline no matter what the difficulty may be,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Fake certificates delayed payments<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile the\u00a0Ghana Education Service (GES) at a recent news\u00a0conference said the payment of the salary arrears delayed because some of the teachers submitted <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2016\/02\/20\/fake-documents-caused-delayed-payment-of-teachers-arrears-ges\/\" target=\"_blank\">fake documents<\/a><\/strong> <\/span>and certificates to support their claims.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It said out of 14,575 input forms that were initially submitted by teachers for processing and payment, only 6,268 were found to be attached with genuine supporting documents.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Director General of the GES, Mr Jacob Aaworb-Nang Maabobr Kor said\u00a0there were indications that some staff of the GES were using fake certificates and other documentations, \u201cand I wish to take this opportunity to assure all GES staff that the exercise to scrutinize documentation of all staff will continue until the bad lots are removed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But NAGRAT has <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2016\/02\/21\/ges-lied-we-didnt-present-fake-certificates-nagrat\/\" target=\"_blank\">rejected the claims<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Vice President of NAGRAT, Angel Cabonu in an interview with <strong>Citi News<\/strong> said \u201cwe are shocked at the issue that the Director General raised and we are saying emphatically that the issue he raised are red-herrings and are very far from the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Godwin A.
