{"id":191965,"date":"2016-02-21T12:03:10","date_gmt":"2016-02-21T12:03:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=191965"},"modified":"2016-02-21T12:03:10","modified_gmt":"2016-02-21T12:03:10","slug":"ec-defends-decision-to-use-nss-personnel-for-nov-polls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/02\/ec-defends-decision-to-use-nss-personnel-for-nov-polls\/","title":{"rendered":"EC defends decision to use NSS personnel for Nov polls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Electoral Commission (EC) has defended its decision to recruit National Service Scheme (NSS) personnel for the November polls.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Chairperson of the EC, Charlotte Osei, announced last year the EC would be recruiting teachers and NSS personnel to help with the November polls\u00a0in response to the queries raised by the Supreme Court during the election petition concerning the quality of staff employed for the 2012 polls.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;yAeuCPOkLeQr72iiC4MNtGQL7BpZYLqB&#8221;]Speaking on <strong>Citi FM\u2019s<\/strong> News analysis programme, <strong>The Big Issue<\/strong>, the Director of Public Affairs for the EC Christian Owusu-Parry said the recruitment of NSS personnel forms part of the commission\u2019s plan to employ professional officials for this year\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He revealed that the EC is\u00a0contemplating the use of NSS personnel as the election officials and indicated that the NSS personnel will be\u00a0posted to\u00a0areas which are not equipped with the requisite personnel per the Supreme Court\u2019s concerns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNot all the personnel are going to be National Service Personnel.
