The Ghana Committed Drivers Association has threatened a nationwide strike on Monday March 14 due to the failure of government to review the cost of insurance premiums for their vehicles.<\/p>\n
According to them, a meeting with the Transport Ministry over their concerns did not yield any positive result, thereby their action.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”itBL2ds5EKjHs1f5zhkntvIbbWCNJNSY”]The Ghana Insurance Association in June last year proposed an 800% increase in motor insurance premiums but reduced it to 400% following some protest from the transport unions.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi News<\/strong>, the Chairman of the association, Charles Danso said the drivers will not call off their strike till their grievances are addressed.<\/p>\n \u201cThe problem is that we are all fighting against the insurance premiums. Few weeks ago, the president while in Kasoa ordered that we should meet the Transport Ministry to discuss it. We went there, and afterwards they asked us to meet the Insurance Commission.\u201d<\/p>\n He said they met with the commission last week but the reduction has not yet taken place.<\/p>\n \u201cThey only explained things to us, and we not looking for explanation we are for reduction. So we will embark on strike on 14 March, it\u2019s a going to be a massive strike. It will not be in only Accra but other parts of the country as well,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
