{"id":191071,"date":"2016-02-18T13:25:30","date_gmt":"2016-02-18T13:25:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=191071"},"modified":"2016-02-18T13:25:30","modified_gmt":"2016-02-18T13:25:30","slug":"im-in-court-in-the-interest-of-ndc-armah-ashietey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/02\/im-in-court-in-the-interest-of-ndc-armah-ashietey\/","title":{"rendered":"I&#8217;m in court in the interest of NDC &#8211; Armah Ashietey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The defeated National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Klottey Korle constituency, Nii Armah Ashietey, says\u00a0his legal action against the party is to save it from future troubles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nii Armah Ashietey, who&#8217;s the current MP for the area, intimated that his decision to protest against the \u00a0outcome of the primary in Klottey Korle, was not for personal benefit but for the benefit of his constituency and the party.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;bWivTfiAFWRY2ngwsX1ORtTapWXbvANp&#8221;]Mr. Ashietey, a former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, is in court challenging the victory\u00a0of Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, who beat him to emerge the party&#8217;s candidate for the November polls.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But Mr. Ashietey and the other contestant, Nii John Coleman, have not taken the defeat by the\u00a0daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings lightly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to them, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings is not a registered voter and therefore could not stand for an election.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nii Ashietey subsequently incurred the displeasure of the public and accusations of pettiness following his decision to resort to the court.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Court action in the NDC\u2019s interest<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, Mr. Ashietey insisted that\u00a0his court action, which rather came late, was only a response to some wrongs that had taken place in the party and he felt that it was his duty to correct\u00a0those\u00a0wrongs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIf I see something go wrong, I have a duty to ensure that corrections are made and for me, I don\u2019t think I can let it go.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He also stated that he is serving the best interest of the\u00a0constituency by his decision to challenge Dr. Zanetor Rawlings and the NDC in court.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAll that I\u2019m saying is that, I have the conviction that I have to go to court for my interest and for the interest of the people of Klottey Korle Constituency.
