Nii Noi Nortey, the man who was elected as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Klottey Korle Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has agreed to contest the election for the second time, after his two contenders went to court to annul the outcome of the previous election.<\/p>\n
Mr. Noi Nortey who insisted he had been fairly elected and there would not participate in another election, has confirmed he will take part in the\u00a0re-run slated for February 27, 2016.<\/p>\n
Nii Noi Nortey\u2019s victory in the August 2 primary, became a subject of a legal tussle when his two contenders, led by Philip Addison with support from\u00a0Nii Adjei Tawiah went to court.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”pcnRipYeZfeDF8PhCHTJfLOzi8qJNrzp”]A\u00a0statement from Nii Nortey’s\u00a0lawyers on Tuesday said, \u201cwe wish to humbly inform all delegates in Klottey Korle and the teaming supporters of the NPP and that in the interest of peace, harmony, party cohesion, unity of purpose to work together as members of the same political party, our client will re-run\u00a0 of the parliamentary primary.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is our clients desire that after the said primary, all the contestants will rally behind the victorious candidate to contest the 2016 election. Our client is hereby calling on all delegates to turn up in their numbers to vote massively for him in order to lead the Klottey Korle constituency of the NPP to victory in 2016,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n
Results of the previous\u00a0primary<\/strong><\/p>\n In that primary, Philip Addison, who was lead counsel for the NPP’s 2012 election, polled a meager 22, while Nii Nortey polled 393 votes. Nii Adjei Tawiah had\u00a019 votes.<\/p>\n But the two were unhappy with the outcome calling the election a sham. They had sought to convince\u00a0the party to address their concerns internally, but that failed, forcing them to go to court.<\/p>\n Even during their court proceedings, the party got them to agree an out o0f court settlement, but that also failed , forcing them to resort to the courts again.<\/p>\n Eventually, the ruling by the court although a bit unclear, appears to have suggested a re-run of the polls.<\/p>\n A\u00a0statement signed by NPP’s acting General Secretary, John Boadu, said the Klottey Korle primary is now scheduled for Saturday February 27, 2016.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
