President John\u00a0Mahama has assured Ghanaians living abroad of his commitment to ensure a peaceful election in November.<\/p>\n

He describes as normal, some disturbing political developments ahead of the elections, but adds that his government is committed to ensuring a peaceful, free and fair election.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”VPCXmo5MEkQIjcIjn6Hh5Y47tq9Q0ewU”]President Mahama, was addressing the Ghanaian community\u00a0in the Iranian capital Tehran, to round up his three\u00a0day state visit to that country.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are in an election year and of course there is a lot of political rhetoric and you should know that it\u2019s normal. In election year, a lot of the political argumentation and debates heightens a bit but I can assure you that we will have a peaceful and successful elections and Ghana will continue to be the beacon of democracy in Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n

He told the Ghanaian community in Tehran that the Electoral Commission is getting ready for the season and have subsequently released the calendar for the election.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026they\u2019ve released the calendar and the unique thing about the election is that it\u2019s been pulled forward to one month so instead of the first week of December, it will rather be in the first week of November.\u201d<\/p>\n

In another development, President\u00a0Mahama said government will embark on a vigorous programme to diversify the economy starting with the oil and gas sector.<\/p>\n

According to him, after 58 years, the country should have moved away from just exporting raw materials to creating value.<\/p>\n
