The police administration has dismissed reports that the two alleged robbers who attacked and stole from a Koala sales girl last month have escaped from their custody.<\/p>\n
Some reports had suggested that the two had absconded and are being hunted by the Police.<\/p>\n
But the Deputy Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Freeman Tettey, says the two are still in their custody and would face the full rigors of the law.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”KkhHMHWXiWnTfgiwWnlcfshgMugKEDis”]\u201cYou know they were badly injured and they were kept at the Police Hospital for treatment\u201d, he said, adding that the injury is the reason they are yet to be prosecuted.<\/p>\n
DSP Tettey explained that there are serious consequences when a suspect escapes from police custody, hence every police officer works to ensure it does not happen.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is a high danger if a suspect escapes and there is a bigger punishment so every police person who is keeping a suspect knows the consequences of playing lose for a suspect to run away\u201d, he reiterated<\/p>\n
On January 8 this year, the two armed robbers attacked a lady; near the American Embassy, snatching her bag which they suspected contained money.<\/p>\n
After realizing she had no money on her, the robbers shot her in the thigh and calf and attempted to escape.<\/p>\n
A taxi driver who witnessed the incident prevented the robbers from escaping by knocking them off their motor bikes with his taxi cab, leading to their arrest.<\/p>\n
An Accra Circuit Court has since remanded the two robbers in addition with a staff of koala Shopping Mall believed to have masterminded the robbery.<\/p>\n
The taxi driver has subsequently been rewarded with a new car from management of the Koala Shopping Mall.<\/p>\n
President John Mahama has also announced government\u2019s decision to reward the driver with a house.
